Pokmon Go is yet to officially announce this year’s big Halloween event, but we’ve already got a sneaky peek under the Mimikyu cloth at what’s in store.
Notably, there’s a new Special Research task – the first for a non-Mythical Pokmon – plus ghost and dark-type spawns, quests and new clothing items.
There may be spoilers ahead:
Serial Pokmon Go leaker Chrales has peered into the game’s network traffic and found dialogue for a brand new Special Research task themed around Spiritomb, an odd Dark/Ghost type Pokmon you had to follow a complicated process to get in the main Pokmon games.
Thankfully the process to get Spiritomb in Pokmon Go seems a lot easier – the most difficult part seems to be catching 108 Pokmon, a reference to the 108 spirits Spiritomb is supposedly made up of.
Otherwise, this Halloween event will let you cosplay as Gengar via a new backpack, hat and shirt, among other new avatar items, and be rewarded for catching Dark and Ghost-type creatures, which are certain to be in abundance.
Giratina has been teased in both Gen 4 trailers so far.
There’s no word yet on other new Pokmon launching, but there are plenty of spooky Gen 4 types to make up a mini release wave – creatures such as Drifblim and Stunky, and evolutions of existing creatures like Froslass, Dusknoir, Mismagius, Weavile and Honchkrow.
We’d wager on the event going live soon – as Mewtwo is due to leave legendary raids tonight, and spooky-looking Gen 4 legendary Giratina has already been teased for release.
Lavender Town theme return, please?
