Bandai Namco announced that a brand new Dragon Ball Action RPG, Project Z, is in the works, with more information coming by the end of January.
Through V-Jump Magazine’s official Twitter account, Bandai Namco announced today that a brand new Dragon Ball Action RPG is in development, and is tentatively named Project Z.

Here’s a quick translation of the part of the tweet concerning Project Z :
“In 2019, the Dragon Ball Z universe is expanding with a brand new game by Bandai Namco Entertainment! The first look on Goku in this new game will be coming in the March 2019 issue of V Jump magazine, releasing in all the galaxy on January 21.”
An official announcement by Bandai Namco was also tweeted a few minutes later.
In 2019, the project of a New Game focusing on the World of Dragon Ball Z begins!
And more news coming to DRAGON BALL Fighter Z! The Warrior from Universe 11 is joining the fight!
More information to be revealed at the DRAGON BALL FighterZ World Tour Finals in January 26th ~ 27th https://t.co/K8tc4BvnZa— BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe (@BandaiNamcoEU) January 16, 2019
Note that the announcement says more information will be coming at the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals on January 27 and 27, which is a few days after the release of the March issue of V Jump Magazine. It’s safe to assume the real, juicy announcements will be made there, while V Jump will only have some sort of key visual for Project Z with Goku.
Bandai Namco hasn’t communicated yet a release estimate or platforms for Project Z. It’s also unclear how far the development of the game has progressed.
Dragon Ball games have been much more diverse in the past, with multiple RPGs games on Snes or GBA. However, most Dragon Ball games recently have fighting games, with Arc System Works’ Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Dimps’ Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, so Project Z is a great change of pace for fans. I’m looking forward to what kind of game systems Project Z will bring to the table, hopefully adapting Dragon Ball Z‘s speedy and cool battles into a great action RPG.
Another game, Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission, is also coming west in April. Stay tuned for more information regarding Project Z and Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s Season 2 DLC in the following days.
