A wholesome story from Fallout 76 to start 2019.
Two Fallout 76 players ended up making friends with a bunch of Dad’s who then ended up taking matters into their own hands and improved the players’ home in the most wholesome way possible.
As 2018 drew to a close, Anna Spargo-Ryan took to Twitter to tell a wonderful story of an event that took place within Bethesda’s Fallout 76. Sharing her story on December 30, Anna explains that she and her boyfriend play Fallout 76 together as a team of two. Her boyfriend discovered that someone in the server had their C.A.M.P in the same spot he has his. When checking out the area they met a player who traded with them and invited them to watch a nuke launch with five other players.
it turns out that the six Fallout 76 players were Dad’s who had all jumped on for a spot of Fallout 76 after putting the kids to bed. From there they all watched the Nuke launch, then Anna invited them back to her C.A.M.P. This is where it starts getting wholesome. The six Dad’s worked together, using their higher-ranking privileges to improve Anna’s C.A.M.P. so that when she logged back in the morning after she’d find a total renovation.
Flamingos, lamps, statues, a new top-floor made from stronger material, and even a new suit of Power Armor. Strangers began to arrive to see what was going on and ended up with the Dad’s using Anna’s C.A.M.P to create new weapons, food, and more, giving them away to the lower level players. After that, they all sat around and had various conversations proving that video games can be a lovely place.
You’ll be able to find the Twitter thread below including pictures but be prepared to feel good by the end of it. It’s a lovely story to hear about despite all the recent negativity towards Fallout 76 and developer Bethesda. Mainly with the Fallout 76 Collectors Edition bags, the refund policy, and the in-game stores pricing.
A feel-good video game story thread:
Last night we were playing Fallout 76, which is an online multiplayer game. Because of the way the gameplay works, you mostly don’t interact with other people, but my boyfriend and I play on a team of two.

In the game you have a C.A.M.P., which is like a house you build to store your stuff, craft items, grow vegetables and so on.
Only one person can put their C.A.M.P. in each part of the map. If you try to load in and someone has theirs in the same spot as you, yours won’t appear.

So last night I came home from the movies and bf was excited because he’d met this dude. His C.A.M.P. was in the same spot as bf’s, so he went to check it out. He walked up to the door, but it was locked so he went to leave. Then the door opened. The camp owner beckoned to him.

They traded some things and this guy told him they were about to launch a nuke and would he like to come along? Six of them were playing in a group with voice chat.
Turns out: DADS. Playing after the kids were in bed. Like us.

We all jumped on the voice chat and did the nuke zone. Then I was like, hey, why don’t you all come back to my camp?
I’ve been trying to get people to visit my camp since I started playing. Hell, probably since I started playing The Sims, let’s be honest.

Like, this is the sign outside my camp. pic.twitter.com/HYtJEa3qUW

Suddenly, six dads had converged on my camp. Most of them were higher level than me and had loads of good crafting items and blueprints. I just wanted them to sit on my couches tbh, but they went totally Queer Eye on my place.

They were like worker bees, making improvements. They swapped in and out of teams so they could build on my plot.
I logged in this morning and found shit everywhere. Flamingos. Lamps. Welcome mats. Statues. pic.twitter.com/hRz2nTmeWF

One of them re-did my whole top floor in tougher material I don’t have access to yet. pic.twitter.com/sVQNugFcca

Another made me a new suit of power armour. He didn’t have enough scrap to build it so all the dads pooled their resources and we’re trading and swapping for 20 minutes to get it done. pic.twitter.com/LJiaWUGLrZ

Then, because there were now 8 of us on a random part of the map, strangers started turning up.
The dads made them over, too. They used my camp to make new guns, armour, food, and shared it with these lower-level players. Bags and bags of random gear all over my renovated camp.

They gave Stimpaks and Radaways to new players, XP-boosting food to others. A .50 cal machine gun for the most excited level 20 dude of all time.
By this stage it was midnight. We sat around in my flash new camp and used voice chat to talk about our kids, our divorces.

For four hours, we hung out with this funny, generous, kind group of internet dads. I went to bed at 2am with the dorkiest warm feeling in my heart.
Anyway, sometimes the internet is good. I’m going to play with them again tonight.
