Esports legends SonicFox has stated that he is interested in helping women and younger players to improve their fighting game skills.
From the outside looking in, fighting games can be intimidating. As two juggernauts duke it out on the screen players can be seen hammering buttons and entering complex combinations into high-end fight sticks at blinding speeds. There’s no denying that there is a lot to learn here.
Enter esports legend SonicFox. Taking into consideration that the competitive fighting game scene is dominated by adult male players, SonicFox has taken to Twitter claiming that he’d like to initiate a programme that would see more women and children involved in the competitive side of the genre.
SonicFox states that the idea is to teach women and children how to improve their game, but confirms that he’s currently unsure how to put such a plan into action.
Although the professional fighting game scene is male-dominated, other parts of the esports world seem to be more diverse. Competitive Pokémon, for example, sees a number of different age brackets for people to compete in. This allows younger players to also compete at a high level in both the video game and card game tournaments. Esports equipment company BenQ has also recently organized an all-female PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds tournament with a $15,000 top prize.
If SonicFox’s concept comes to fruition, up and coming players can rest assured that they are in safe hands. SonicFox is not only a multiple-time Evo champion and Injustice 2 world champion, but he has also recently been crowned 2018’s esports player of the year at The Game Awards.
One idea I’ve been having for awhile but don’t know how to execute properly is to teach Women and children in the fgc or wanting to get in how to take their game to the next level!!
