Pokmon Go is doing something a bit different for its final Community Day of the year – a bumper weekend-long event boasting every creature highlighted over the past 11 months.
That means all 11 Pokmon featured so far – from Eevee to Cyndaquil – will return with their exclusive Community Day evolution moves.
The event lasts all of next weekend – from 9pm UK time next Friday, 30th November until 7am on Monday 3rd December.
Double catch XP, Stardust and Incubator effectiveness bonuses will be live during the regular Community Day window during that time (10am until 1pm UK time on Saturday 1st December).
Just in time, Pokmon Go last night finally upped its storage limit, so you can expand your caught Pokmon amount up to 2000.
Over the past year, Community Days have featured (deep breath): Pikachu, Dratini, Bulbasaur, Mareep, Charmander, Larvitar, Squirtle, Eevee, Chikorita, Beldum and Cyndaquil.
Of those, you’ll be wanting to prioritise Beldum, Larvitar, Charmander, Bulbasaur and Dratini – the most useful creatures with evolutions which feature highly in the game’s meta.
It will also be a good idea to stock up on strong (and shiny) Eevee, ahead of Gen 4’s Glaceon and Leafeon appearing in the not-too-distant future.
The Community Day concept now feels ingrained in Pokmon Go – it’s hard to remember a time before the game encouraged its enormous playerbase to meet up IRL every month for the chance at something shiny in reward.
And it’s worth remembering how Niantic was unsure how well the premise would work – very well, it turned out – when the idea was announced.
“I think they’re great,” Niantic boss John Hanke told me in our recent chat on the future of Pokmon Go. “I think we’ll do them forever. It was an interesting experiment – we’ve done lots of types of events, even going back to Ingress, but to do something worldwide all in the same day was new this year and it worked even better than we thought it would. It’s been a really nice discovery and good way to do something with the community.”
